Davis Technical College Announces New Partnership with Murdock Auto Group

Davis Technical College (Davis Tech) is proud to announce a new partnership with Murdock Auto Group, a Utah-based leader in the automotive industry. The two organizations signed a contract and celebrated their new relationship at a ceremony held Friday, October 6 at Davis Technical College. Several dignitaries from Davis Technical College and Murdock attended the event, including Davis Technical College President Michael J. Bouwhuis and Murdock Auto Group CEO Blake Murdock Sr.

“The Technical College is very excited to partner with Murdock Auto Group, a long-established and well-respected member of the community,” Bouwhuis says. “We are thrilled to acquire a partner like Murdock to help us grow our Automotive Technology program. As our seventh national/state training partnership, Murdock offers expertise and resources that will help us develop new educational and employment pathways for our students.”

Murdock Auto Group, a family-owned business, is one of the oldest car dealerships in the state with over 90 years in business. Murdock recently purchased Axtel Taylor in Logan, which became Murdock Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac and is now Murdock’s sixth Utah dealership.

“We always need technicians at our dealerships,” says Blake Murdock Sr., CEO of Murdock Auto Group. “That position is vital because we value good service, yet it’s one of the most difficult to fill. Our new partnership with Davis Tech will help us hire employees who are trained to fix cars quickly.”

The partnership pathway offers new career potential for students in Davis Technical College’s Automotive Technology program. Currently, the program enrolls an average of 50 students and places between 90-100 percent of its students.

“This partnership gives us access to the most up-to-date technology,” says John Riley, Automotive Technology instructor at Davis Tech. “We’ll be on the cutting edge of the latest developments in the automotive industry. We look forward to working with Murdock in the future.”

By partnering with Murdock, Davis Technical College will leverage its equipment and resources, keep pace with changing technology and avoid passing expenses to students through tuition and fees. Not only will students form relationships with a potential employer, they will also benefit from Murdock’s expertise and enjoy access to the company’s most current technology, including advances in safety, fuel efficiency, and environmental sustainability.

Partnering with Murdock will also lay the groundwork for other partnerships for Davis Technical College with national vendors, suppliers and manufacturers, and for Murdock’s increased exposure as an employer in Utah.

As one of Utah’s largest automotive employers, Murdock constantly recruits and trains employees. This partnership will augment these endeavors as Davis Technical College becomes a central hub for Murdock to train and develop its workforce, whether they are students beginning their careers or industry employees seeking career advancement.

“We’ve been working with Davis Tech for several months to create this partnership,” says Garth Lovell, talent acquisition director at Murdock Auto Group. “It will help both Davis Tech and Murdock Auto Group. We will provide Davis Tech with newer equipment to help them train their students on a variety of vehicles, and they in turn will provide us with people who are prepared for employment.”
