DATC Foundation Annual Golf Tournament Raises Nearly $40,000 for Scholarships

Davis Applied Technology College hosted its Annual Golf Tournament on July 27, 2016, at Bountiful Ridge Golf Course. The tournament brought together 144 golfers, DATC Foundation members, and corporate sponsors to enjoy a game of golf and raise money.

Lloyd Carr, DATC Foundation Board Chair and event emcee, says, “Through many generous sponsors, players and prize donors, almost $40,000 was raised to fund scholarships for DATC students. Money generated by the golf tournament provides funding for scholarships which open doors of opportunity for many students.”

17 major sponsors donated to this year’s tournament, including: Signature Sponsor Structural Steel & Plate Fabrication; silver sponsors Albany Engineered Composites, America First Credit Union, Banner Bank, Davis Hospital and Medical Center, Orbit Irrigation Products, and Orbital ATK. Bronze sponsors included the Barlow Corporation, Gramoll Construction, Hexcel Corporation, HollyFrontier, Hughes General Contractors, Wall Bros Construction LLC, South Davis Community Hospital, and the Standard Examiner.

The golfers enjoyed breakfast provided by Admiral Beverage Corporation and Chick-Fil-A, and co-sponsored by Banner Bank. Texas Roadhouse provided lunch, with Lincoln Electric as co-sponsor. Tanner Clinic was a hole-in-one sponsor and Colonial Building Supply was a cart sponsor. Hole sponsors included Davis Conference Center/Hilton Garden Inn, Interform, Intermountain McKay Dee Hospital, Prime Alliance Bank, Tanner Clinic, and Utah Educational Savings Plan. Taylor Dean of Structural Steel served as Golf Committee Chair, while Claudia Allen of Banner Bank served as co-chair.

While the golf tournament is the Foundation’s major annual event, the Foundation fundraises for scholarships year-round. During the 2015-2016 academic year, the Foundation awarded over $126,000 in scholarship funds, and 78 students received scholarships directly supported by the Golf Tournament.

“The DATC Foundation Golf Tournament goes a long way toward helping DATC students,” says Marcie Valdez, DATC Foundation Director. “Approximately 30% of the money the Foundation raised this year came from this tournament. We are so grateful to our sponsors and all those who supported us this year.”
